Peter has a natural ability to draw and paint which led him to complete a three year Fine and Applied Arts Diploma at Otago Polytechnic. This course introduced him to pottery, water colour painting and sculpture, all things at which he excelled.

Peter began work as a set designer for television for 10 years and later ran his own boutique design business, Peter Langford Design, specialising in public exhibitions and displays. Highlights of his work were his contribution to the NZ Pavilion in Spain at the World Expo in 1992 , the Antarctic Encounter for Kelly Tarltons, creating the interior theming for the Auckland International Airport in the mid nineties and designing the content of the NZ Pavilions for the Americas Cup in Genoa and Cowes.

Now retired, Peter has returned to his roots combining ceramics, paintings and sculptures - art woven in with design - to create unique and ‘one off’ pieces. He is extremely productive and versatile as his product range shows.

He is a practising member of the Auckland Studio of Potters where he has been tutored by Peter Lange and Andrew van der Putten and has been a regular exhibitor at Auckland annual pottery exhibitions.

Peters work often evolves around a theme. For his Lure of Gold ceramics exhibition, Peter included seams of real gold in the ceramic works. He was inspired by the hardship and conditions in which the gold miners worked; the difficult terrain, the horrendously cold winters and the long days.

There are a small number of HIde and Seek works with a more Pacific palette and a then some sculptural work followed by pastels celebrating the female form.

Lately he has been influenced by the beach and coastline of Aotearoa and is creating works towards his Shifting Sands exhibition.

Peter takes commissions for pottery, stained-glass window design, mosaic work and mixed media paintings.

Thanks to the Eade Gallery in Clyde for their support of my work.
