Out of the Fire
Peter’s not happy unless he’s doing something preferably something he hasn't done before. So, as a member of the Auckland Potters Society in Onehunga, Pete has worked towards exhibitions which each follow a theme of some sort. His first was a stoneware collection called The Lure of Gold, then Hide and Seek which he exhibited at Eade Gallery in Clyde. Then his work Shifting Sands, a collection of porcelain works were included in an exhibition with realist painter ,Nicola McLeay, at The Lighthouse Gallery in Port Macquarie NSW. That exhibition was called A Potter and a Painter
Peter’s exhibition presented in our Amiria Street Gallery in 2026 is on a similar vein, but Peter is both the painter and the potter.
There are 4 oils on canvas and 23 pots on display.
Pete likes to play with how his pots are painted. Today’s series came about because he wanted to create tension between primary-coloured ellipses, red, blue and yellow, on a neutral background and play with the accidental fluid lines mostly black and red that form a bridge between them. This series of work he calls Out of the fire.
